One of our best shots at a medal is of course Arsen Julfalakyan, the former world gold medalist and Olympic silver medalist. He'll be competing in the 75kg class, which kicks off on August 13th. Here's some recent footage of Arsen going toe-to-toe with Vlasov of Russia, with Arsen winning the Silver:

Artur Aleksanyan of Gyumri is another world class wrestler to keep your eye out for:

Finally, as reported a few weeks ago, Armenia will also have gymnasts this year!

Bulgaria Wrestling Coach Nazaryan Fasts

The Associated Press is reporting that Bulgarian National Wrestling head coach Armen Nazaryan has started a fast to protest the International Olympic Committee's controversial decision last month to cut wrestling from the 2020 Olympics in Istanbul, Madrid or Tokyo.

The Gyumri-born Armenian represented Bulgaria and won gold at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympics, both in Greco-Roman Wrestling. Here is an article announcing Nazaryan's strike:

The following article details how intertwined wrestling is certain cultures.

This issue has even united political foes U.S. and Iran in their bid to have wrestling reinstated:

HyeMarzig is keeping a close eye on developments on this story, especially in light of Armenia's own success at the 2012 London Olympics in wrestling.
